ITIA Panel Discussion and Translation Competition Prize Giving Ceremony, followed by ITIA AGM

The 33rd ITIA Annual General Meeting will be held on the 19th October 2019 at 2.15 pm at the Irish Writers Centre, 19 Parnell Square, Dublin 1.

The AGM will be preceded by a panel discussion for translators as well as the award ceremony for the winners of the ITIA Translation Competition for Secondary School Students.

The panel discussion and award ceremony is open to all interested parties and free of charge, provided you have registered with our Administrator at admin.itia@gmail.com by COB on 18th October 2019.

Panel discussion

Panel members:   Karl Apsel, Anne Fox, Adam Brożyński, Annette Schiller. Moderator: Elaine Jennings

Karl Apsel is a freelance translator (English–German), conference interpreter and Professional Member of the ITIA and the German translators’ and interpreters’ association BDÜ. Karl has worked in the translation industry in Ireland since 1995 – as project manager for high profile translation projects and as a freelance translator – and is a conference interpreter trainer at National University of Ireland Galway.

Adam Brożyński has a Master’s degree in English Philology from Adam Mickiewicz University (UAM) and  a postgraduate Diploma in Translation from the School of Translation, Interpreting and Foreign Languages (UAM) in Poznań. After working for some years in Poland as a freelance translator and interpreter he moved to Ireland in 1997 and set up his FIRSTPOLISH translation business in 2005. Adam is a professional member of the Irish Translators’ and Interpreters’ Association and an ITIA Certified Legal translator. in addition, he is a sworn translator with the Polish Ministry of Justice and was recently awarded an MBA by the University of Wales.

Anne Fox is a translator specialising in banking, finance and corporate communications. With a degree in Social Science from UCC and a Certificate in Translation and Interpreting from UCLA Extension, Anne has been practising for over 25 years. Anne works on bank inspection reports, audit reports, annual reports and other corporate texts with a focus on the authenticity and legibility of the target text. Anne is a professional member of the ITIA and an ITIA Certified Legal Translator. She is also a member of the ITI in the UK and regularly attends CPD in the UK and elsewhere in Europe.

Annette Schiller is a freelance translator and an ITIA Certified Legal translator for German to English. She is Chair of FIT Europe, the Regional Centre Europe of the International Federation of Translators (FIT) and is a former Chair of the Irish Translators’ and Interpreters’ Association (ITIA). She has a PhD in translation studies and a diploma in legal studies. She has been teaching on the MA in Translation Studies and at undergraduate level at Dublin City University for over 20 years.

Elaine Jennings is an in-house translator working from German into English for an agency specialising in finance, marketing and corporate communications. Prior to this, she was a translator and proofreader at a scientific research institute in Germany and a freelance EFL teacher. She holds an MA in Translation Studies from DCU.
