Two events on Machine Translation Post-editing

1) All you need to know about MT post-editing

Saturday 26 June 2021 from 11 am to 1 pm on Zoom

Machine translation post-editing (MTPE) offers new work opportunities for translators, but it requires a different skillset and entails different working conditions from translating. This webinar will answer some commonly asked questions from working translators who are new to post-editing as well as post-editors who want to know more about the job:

•    What is post-editing?
•    How is it different from translating?
•    What is the process of post-editing?
•    What skill sets are needed to become a post-editor?
•    What working conditions and career prospects does it offer to translators?

The 2-hour webinar will consist of a 50-minute information session and a 50-min hands-on practice session, with a break in the middle. It will be of interest to anyone working into or out of English.

Speaker: Akiko Sakamoto (PhD)

Akiko Sakamoto is a senior lecturer in translation studies at the University of Portsmouth, UK. She teaches and researches translation technologies and translators’ practice. Before coming to academia, she was a professional translator for English to Japanese in the field of financial translation and subtitling.

This event is free of charge and open to ITIA members only.

There is no need to register. You can just join us on the day using the link included in the pdf sent by email.

2) MTPE – the Language Service Company (LSC/LSP) perspective

Saturday 3 July 2021 from 11 am to 12 pm on Zoom

Machine Translation and post-editing have been around for a long time now. While technology keeps improving, allowing for greater productivity and higher quality, the recipe for a fruitful cooperation along the whole supply chain still needs to be found.
In this webinar, LSP-owner Diego Cresceri will try and shed some light on the most critical topics around MT, sharing his point of view on the ideal post-editor profile, post-editing best practice, how to start offering these services and keep it sustainable. Diego will be happy to reply to attendees’ questions (45 minutes + 15 mins Q&A).
